Sarah Stoltzfus, an Old Order Amish woman, made these lovely quilts in the classic Amish tradition, using wools that vary in age from 60 to over 150 years old and Old Order patterns she learned as a young girl.  Sarah was born, raised and reared her family in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and after the death of her husband decided to return to quiltmaking.  She was, however, determined to use antique wool fabrics to create these heirloom quilts and each piece is a memory:  her sister’s dress, her brother’s baby blanket, her husband’s wedding suit.

Mary Glick made these two quilts and like Sarah, was determined to follow the classic Amish tradition of dark colors and traditional patterns.  Mary, however, never learned how to quilt as a young girl and consequently found instruction and inspiration in books written by “English” (non-Amish) authors with expertise in Amish quiltmaking traditions.  These two quilts were made from cotton fabrics
